“Diplomatic Encounters between Qing China and the West”
Congratulations to Professor Wensheng Wang for the publication of “Diplomatic Encounters between Qing China and the West,” one of 24 chapters in Unconquered States: Non-European Powers in the Imperial Age (Oxford University Press, e-book available now, forthcoming in hardcover in June 2025).
The landmark collection edited by H. E. Chehabi and David Motadel presents the first comprehensive global history of the engagement between independent non-European states and European empires and offers new insights into the struggles and achievements of non-Western states to retain their sovereignty in the imperial age. Unconquered States is available through UH Hamilton Library as an e-book.
A book launch featuring two of the other contributors, Dr. Keanu Sai and Dr. Lorenz Gonschor, will take place on February 26, 2025 at 4:00pm at the Hawaiʻi Imin International Conference Center. Twenty hard copies of the book will be available via raffle. See this flyer for more information.
