Transcripts
What is an Unofficial Transcript?
An unofficial transcript is a copy of your academic record that's used for an initial admissions review. Unlike an official transcript, it can be a student-generated copy that is uploaded to your application. It may also be a document that is emailed, faxed, hand-delivered, or mailed in an unsealed envelope from a university or college.
Please upload an unofficial transcript from each post-secondary institution you've attended when you submit your application. This document will be used for our initial review of your academic record. If you are admitted, you'll be required to submit an official transcript to finalize your admission.
What is an Official Transcript?
An official transcript is a document sent directly to Graduate Division from your previous institution. This can be either:
- Electronic: Sent directly from the institution to gradss@hawaii.edu.
- Printed: Mailed in a sealed, institution-stamped envelope to:
Graduate Division 2540 Maile Way, Spalding Hall 354 Honolulu, HI 96822
Important: We will not accept any transcripts that are hand-carried, faxed, or copies submitted by the student. These are considered unofficial.
Key Requirements:
- From Every Institution: You must submit one official transcript from each post-secondary institution you have attended, including study abroad, exchange, summer, and non-degree programs.
- Final and Complete: If you have graduated from a particular university of college, your transcripts must show your degree has been officially conferred.
Failure to submit your official transcripts on time will prevent you from registering for classes.
Non-Traditional Grades
Applicants who have more than 25 percent of undergraduate course work at a U.S. institution evaluated under a non-traditional grading system are required to submit official scores for the appropriate standardized exam. Non-traditional grades include pass/fail, credit/no credit, no grades, etc. All other applicants submit GRE General Test scores.
International Transcripts & Academic Records
See International Students > International Transcripts and Academic Records for more information.
Residency Declaration Form
Applicants who qualify to pay resident tuition at University of Hawai'i at Mānoa based on residency status or Board of Regents exemptions should submit the Residency Declaration Form. The residency status of a student is determined at the time of admission to the university. Students who do not qualify as bona fide residents of the State of Hawai'i pay non-resident tuition, until satisfactory evidence that proves residency is presented to the residency officer. For more information on residency status and Board of Regents exemptions, contact the Residency Office.
