Using Student-Driven Rubrics to Advance Student Learning in Assessment: Processes Illustrated

Date and Time: Friday, February 28, 2025 from 12:00pm – 1:00pm.

Assessment Forum Session

In this session, the two presenters will share real-world applications of rubrics developed by students to assess university class projects. This process allows students to use  their own knowledge and language to articulate what quality should look like, empowering them with agency and equity. One case highlights how a student-driven process to develop assessment criteria evolves into a rubric in a class that prepares elementary educators to integrate with the arts. The other case highlights how a Capstone Creative project (short film) course employs student created rubrics (as well as Instructor rubric) for peer & self assessment to engage students in self reflection of professional skills.
