The annual University of Hawaiʻi (UH) Online 5-Week Professional Development (PD) Program was created in 2018 in alignment with UH’s strategic directions (University of Hawaiʻi, 2015) to support faculty across the system with developing online courses in an accelerated, 5-week format. In 2020, through participation in the UH Mānoa Leadership Assessment Institute, the instructional design team collected and analyzed participant data in order to identify successful strategies and areas for revisions of future program offerings. A design thinking approach was applied to guide the iterative improvement process. Results showed that the greatest strength of the PD program was the instructional designer and facilitator support alongside the implementation of the UH Online 5-Week Laulima learning management system course template. Participants identified learning Laulima’s tools and tips as an area that could be improved upon. By Dorothy Hirata, Laura Chuang, Matt Parcon, Alice Swift & Marisa Yamada
