General Information

Student learning is a campus-wide responsibility, and assessment is a way of enacting that responsibility. The University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa Assessment and Curriculum Support Center aspires to improve student learning through building capacity for strong program assessment practices among faculty, staff, and administrators. Assessment Fundamentals is a 7-week asynchronous online course, designed to introduce essential concepts, methods, and processes of program assessment for each component of the Assessment-for-improvement cycle.

Enrollment is open and ongoing.

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Explain key concepts and terminologies in program learning assessment (e.g., learning outcomes, curriculum map, rubric, direct evidence, signature assignment, assessment cycle, use of results)

2. Describe major processes and methods to carry out each step in a program learning assessment cycle.

3. Value program learning assessment as tools to facilitate collaborative reflection on and action for program and student learning improvement

4. Describe culturally-responsive and equity-minded assessment considerations with examples

Commitment and Expectations

• For each module, you are expected to take 60-90 minutes per week to complete the readings, videos, and activities.
• You are expected to meet with ACSC faculty at least once to review individualized program assessment endeavors.
• ACSC faculty are available for personalized support throughout the course.

Acknowledgement of Achievement

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a course completion certificate and earn the Assessment Foundation Achievers badge, issued by the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Excellence.

Eligibility

• This course is open to all UH Mānoa faculty, staff, and administrators who want to learn more about program learning assessment.
• Each cohort enrolls up to 20 participants. Priorities will be given to faculty/staff/administrators who have responsibilities for program assessment (e.g., program assessment coordinators, curriculum committee members).
• Enrollment decisions will be made on a first-come-first-serve basis.
