  • National Institute of Japanese Literature (NIJL) Workshop Series

    The Center for Japanese Studies will be co-sponsoring an upcoming workshop series from the National Institute of Japanese Literature (NIJL).

    There are three events:

    • August 28: Hamilton Library Room 306, 2–4pm, Waka Workshop
    • August 30: Hamilton Library Room 306, 2–4pm, NIJL–HoMA–UHM Workshop
    • RSVP required: **August 31: Hamilton Library Room 301, 2–4pm, Dr. Watanabe’s Public Lecture**  (flyer below)
    The lecture by Dr. Yasuaki Watanabe, Director-General of the National Institute of Japanese Literature (NIJL), “Flowing Like a River: The Foundations of Expression in Japanese Classics,” on August 31, 2023 (Thursday) from 2 pm to 4 pm in the UHM Hamilton Library Room 301.  For more details on the lecture and a link to the required registration, please see the attached flyer.  Seating is limited! 
    Dr. Pier-Carlo Tommasi, UHM Assistant Professor in Premodern Japanese Literature, has played an important part with bringing these special events to the UHM campus.
