The Hawaiʻi Substance Use Professional Development (SUPD) Project is a partnership between the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Thompson School of Social Work and Public Health and the Department of Health Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD) to examine the current state of the substance use workforce in Hawaiʻi and address its training needs.

This training will cover a prevention basics and the hallucinogens drug category. Prevention basics will include how prevention is key to addressing substance use, who is involved, when prevention begins, and various prevention approaches. The hallucinogen drug category will address psilocybin, LSD, DMT, mescaline, ketamine, and PCP.

Dr. Kaiwipunikauikawēkiu Punihei Lipe is a Native Hawaiian mother, daughter, ʻōlapa, and educator. In 2017, she was hired into the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) President’s Office as the inaugural Native Hawaiian Affairs Program Officer, where she implements findings from her award-winning research to advance UHM’s goal of becoming a Native Hawaiian place of learning. She is also the director of UHM’s Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Campus Center and the Institute for Hawaiian Language Research and Translation. She holds a BA in Hawaiian Studies, an MS in Counseling Psychology, and a PhD in Education Administration.
