Description:
Although “publish or perish” is still an academic mantra, what it means to publish an article has changed very swiftly and substantially over the past few years. Journals in particular have had to navigate the challenges and demands of open access, online publication, peer review, radically changing editorial practices, platform monetizing, the proliferation of edited collections, special issues as the norm, atomizing of content for commercial purposes, and a host of other subtle and profound adjustments brought on by changing economic and institutional conditions. This talk will briefly describe several of these changes, then offer some suggestions about making decisions regarding appropriate publications, and what to expect when you submit your work to journals.
