The Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship oversees most organized research units on campus. Dr. Christopher Sabine, as the interim Vice Provost, has leadership responsibility for planning, directing, developing, and coordinating research programs at UHM; working through the respective Mānoa deans and research unit directors.

This office administers research and training revolving funds (RTRF), helps build interdisciplinary research teams, manages limited submission opportunities, provides advice and administrative guidance to research centers/units, facilitates strategic research initiatives, provides resources for faculty proposal writing, and interacts with UH System OVPRI (Office of Research Services; Office of Research Compliance; Office of Innovation and Commercialization) to foster research across the Mānoa campus.

This office also helps facilitate the integration of research and creative works into the student educational experience by administering, coordinating, and providing funding support for the campus-wide Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) in all disciplines.

The Environmental Health & Safety Office is located within OVPRS to promote a safe campus environment.
