Day 4 Manaʻo for Cohort Kumukahi October 25, 2024

Group photo of our October Cohort Kumukahi participants in Hālau o Haumea. Mahalo e Aunty PMac for taking the photo!

Our fourth day together was a really beautiful experience that perhaps was best described by our fearless leader Punihei in the morning—this was a day for us to bear witness to the complexities of our lives, without the pressure or need to change the world. We began the day in Pilina Circles, and I had the wonderful opportunity to co-facilitate with Kawehi, which is always my pleasure for myself to support my kaikuaʻana in this work. Mahalo nui to the other co-facilitators Kamakani and Megumi & Kristin and Siobhán! I am always reminded on this day in particular of how important it is to have these spaces on campus where everyone has the space and time to share their stories without fear of judgment.

We are also always so thankful to have Kumu Candace Fujikane grace us with her knowledge throughout the day. Something that really seemed to strike a chord with this cohort’s experience in particular was the way we learned a little something from Candace’s most recent book Mapping Abundance for a Planetary Future, where she discussed the ways in which our ʻāina is abundant and provides for us beyond demands of capital. Mahalo e Kumu for being so thoughtful and willing to share your responses to our questions as well!
