Anahulu Poepoe 1/10 – 1/19/2025

UHM NH Updates: Anahulu Poepoe, Ianuali 2025 Friday 1/10 - Sunday 1/19

Aloha pumehana kākou,

Welcome back to another spring semester! As we are enjoying the vibrant energy of classes starting again during the full moons, the students and rains of Mānoa have both returned to enliven our campus. This ʻōlelo noʻeau speaks to the relationship between forests and rains:

Hahai nō ka ua i ka ululāʻau.

Rains always follow the forest.

The rains are attracted to forest trees. Knowing this, Hawaiians hewed only the trees that were needed. —ʻŌN#405

Here in Mānoa, perhaps new trees and plants are blooming since the last time we looked—the blooming ponytail palm pictured above immediately attracted my attention, and of course I had to stop and take this photo before continuing on my way to class!

Anahulu Reflection:

What’s catching your eye, attracting your attention, or bringing the rains this anahulu? Are you noticing anything in particular that marks the (re)turns of this season?

And don’t forget to register for the 2025 Hawaiʻi Kuʻu Home Aloha Summit, which begins this Friday. We can’t wait to see you there!
