Anahulu Hoʻēmi 3/19 – 3/28/2025

UHM NH Updates: Anahulu Hoʻēmi, Malaki 2025 Wednesday 3/19 - Friday 3/28

The deep blue cloudless morning sky with a tiny crescent moon in the center.

Aloha e nā hoa,

Hopefully you were able to find some rest this past week! Our UH Mānoa campus certainly has enjoyed the quietness of spring break—I’ve noticed many Manuokū flying overhead with their beaks full of fish to feed their babies, and I’ve also had the chance to say hi to a few friendly dogs playing around the open lawns.

Today during my usual morning walk, I stopped beneath a large ʻulu (breadfruit) tree to watch a baby Manuokū eat some breakfast that their parent had fished for them. Then, just as I continued walking on my way, I saw one of my good friends heading to a meeting. Since we hadn’t seen each other in a while, I really appreciated having the time to catch up and talk story while we headed in the same direction.

I also really appreciated that I had taken a few seconds out of my day to stop rushing around, because pausing for just a moment actually let me cross paths with someone I wanted and perhaps needed to see.

Anahulu Reflection:

When was the last time you allowed yourself a moment to pause from the business of your life? What good might come out of even a brief second of intentional rest or joy?
