Anahulu Hoʻēmi 2/18 – 2/26/2025

UHM NH Updates: Anahulu Hoʻēmi, Pepeluali 2025 Tuesday 2/18 - Wednesday 2/26

Aloha mai nō,

Here is an ʻōlelo noʻeau to honor the name of our current lunar month:

I Kaulua, Kaulua ka lā, Kaulua ka ua.

In Kaulua, sunshine and rain alternate

Kaulua is a dual-natured month, sunny and rainy both. —ʻŌN#1197

The other day around noon as I was sitting outside of Saunders Hall at an umbrella table, an incredibly brief and gentle rain passed through the area. Then, just a few minutes later, the sun was blinding by the time that the clouds had vanished. I’ve also noticed that the butterflies in particular have been enjoying the weather and especially the brightly-lit mornings and afternoons.

Anahulu Reflection:

Are you noticing any other beings or things that are enjoying the weather? How might you be adjusting your daily activities to the alternating rain and sunshine, perhaps such as stopping to smell the misted ferns growing along the sidewalk?
