Lurana Donnels O’Malley serves as Director of Graduate Studies in Theatre and teaches in the areas of Euro-American theatre history, research, and directing. She highlights the achievements of women in theatre throughout her teaching. O’Malley received her PhD in 1991 from the University of Texas at Austion. She is the author of The Dramatic Works of Catherine the Great: Theatre and Politics in Eighteenth-Century Russia, and the editor/translator of Two Comedies by Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia: Oh, These Times! and The Siberian Shaman. O’Malley has published in Comparative Drama, Text & Presentation, and Theatre History Studies on topics related to American pageant drama, particularly by Black writers. Her book-in-progress (Routledge 2025) treats the plays and pageants of the 1932 George Washington Bicentennial. Recent directing credits include Indecent (Open Home Performance Network), June is the First Fall (Kumu Kahua Theatre), and The Spitfire Grill (Kennedy Theatre).
