Retired 2014. Joseph “Joe” Dodd was a Professor of Theatre and the Resident Scenic and Properties Designer for the Department of Theatre and Dance. Dodd also served as Director of Design for a decade. Locally, he has designed for almost every theatre group in the islands. On the regional theatre circuit, he has designed for the Children’s Theatre Company, Syracuse Stage, Alliance Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Seattle Children’s Theatre, Lincoln Center Institute, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Denver Center Theatre Company and the Fulton Opera House.
Internationally, his designs have been seen in China, Russia, Scotland, Micronesia, Saipan and the Philippines. Photos of his designs have been published in books and journals. In addition to designing for the theatre, he has recently begun illustrating children’s books, with four titles to date, two of which have been recipients of illustration awards; at the time of his retirement, a fifth title was in progress.
