Overview

Our department offers a broad range of degrees in Theatre and Dance at the undergraduate as well as graduate levels. For our Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree, majors may choose between the separate concentrations of Dance or Theatre. At the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) level, students may choose a concentration in Dance or Acting for Theatre, Screen, and New Media. Those interested in pursuing a Master’s degree (M.A.) can choose between Dance, Performance Studies, or Theatre as their concentration. All three M.A. concentrations either involve a written research thesis or an orally presented project, and the Dance and Theatre concentrations also include the option to focus on dance or theatre education. The Master of Fine Arts degree (M.F.A.) offers a Dance concentration with focus areas in dance performance, choreography, screendance, and Hawaiʻi, Asia, and the Pacific dance practices, as well as a Theatre concentration with focus areas in acting, design, directing, Hawaiian theatre, playwriting, and Theatre for Young Audiences. Our Doctorate (PhD) degree has concentrations in Asian Performance, Hawaiian and Indigenous Performance, as well as Performance Studies.
