In this presentation, Dr. Hongzhou Zhang (Assistant Professor, Nanyang Technological University) provided an overview of the fishing issues in Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on the South China Sea. He also discussed the causes of the fishing disputes and the implications of fishing disputes for interstate relations in Asia. His presentation was followed by a discussion moderated by Dr. Shuxian Luo (Assistant Professor of Asian Studies, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa).
Dr. Zhang Hongzhou is an Assistant Professor at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His main research interests include regional and global resources conflicts and governance, game theory, discourse analysis, and governance of emerging technologies. He is an author/editor of three books, including Securing the ‘Rice Bowl’: China and Global Food Security (2018), China and Transboundary Water Politics in Asia (2017) and China’s Global Quest for Resources: Energy, Food and Water (2016). He received his Ph.D. in Public Policy from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore.
