On Tuesday, April 15 at 3:00 pm HST, Dr. Anand Yang (Professor of History and International Studies, University of Washington) joined us for a virtual Career Talk Story event focused on exploring professional journeys in global affairs and Asian studies. Yang shared how his early focus on colonial South Asian history developed into a broader engagement with global affairs and comparative Asian studies. The conversation highlighted how academic interests can evolve across disciplines and lead to impactful international careers.
Anand Yang is a Professor of History at the University of Washington. He began his career specializing in South Asian history, specifically relating to colonial India. In recent years, his interests have increasingly become more comparative and global based on connections involving India, China, and other regions of Asia as well as their relationships to the rest of the world. He was Director of the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington from 2002 to 2010.
This event was part of the Careers in Asia-Pacific Affairs (CAPA) initiative, co-sponsored by the Departments of Asian Studies and Pacific Islands Studies, the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, the Center for Pacific Island Studies, the Center for Indo-Pacific Affairs, and the East Asia National Resource Center.
