Other Conditions: To begin August 15, 2024 pending position clearance and availability of funds. Renewal dependent on satisfactory performance, program needs and availability of funds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and implement online and in-person outreach activities (lectures, seminars, workshops, and conferences) in collaboration with the Center for Japanese Studies’ (CJS) Director and Associate Director.
- Oversee and edit Zoom recordings, and upload to CJS YouTube channel or other online video formats.
- Maintain and update listservs, websites and social media for the Center for Japanese Studies and East Asian Studies, assess engagement analytics and assist in search engine optimization technology measures.
- Produce PR and communications materials and reports, including the Center’s newsletter and seasonal greetings.
- Collect, organize, and report data regarding the Center and East Asian Studies at UHM for internal materials, government reports, and grant applications.
- Answer and monitor Center’s communications (i.e. email accounts) and archive data (newsletters, etc.) and projects.
- Participate in staff meetings.
- Other duties as related to the Center’s projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Full-time classified graduate student enrolled in an UHM graduate degree program.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with work in Japanese Studies.
- Competency in web design and graphic design software, such as WordPress and Canva.
- Experience coordinating outreach activities and preparing event flyers and other announcements.
- Experience with preparing databases and spreadsheets.
- Experience using social media and digital media tools for effectively documenting and presenting the Center’s work.
- Excellent English communication skills (writing, reading, and verbal) at native or near native level.
- Competency with both Windows and Mac operating systems.
- Elementary conversational Japanese language or prior engagement with Japan and/or Japanese culture.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Basic video and sound editing skills.
- Experience in writing for and editing a newsletter (e.g. via Mailchimp).
- Competency in working with mailing list applications such as Mailchimp and the UH ITS system.
- Competency working with Zoom webinars for large groups.
- Advanced proficiency in the Japanese language.
