Other Conditions: To begin August 1, 2024 pending position clearance and availability of funds. Position includes tuition waiver.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Collect, organize, and report information related to the Indo-Pacific Affairs Initiative at the University of Hawaii as assigned by the Center for Indo-Pacific Affairs (CIPA) Director
  2. Coordinate and implement online, hybrid, and in-person events such as lectures, panel discussions, and conferences in collaboration with the Director
  3. Maintain and update the CIPA website and social media
  4. Produce and disseminate promotional materials such as flyers, images, social media posts, and videos
  5. Monitor and respond to communications sent to CIPA via email and social media and maintain contact databases
  6. Assist the Director with meeting scheduling and other logistical support related to CIPA’s day-to-day activities
  7. Participate in staff meetings and collaborate with other CIPA team members as necessary
  8. Track news and conduct literature reviews on topics related to technology, security, politics, economics, and/or other issues in the Indo-Pacific region
  9. Other duties as related to the Center’s projects as assigned by the Director

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Full-time classified graduate student enrolled in or accepted to a UHM graduate degree program
  2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework related to Asia and/or the Pacific Islands
  3. Excellent communication skills in English (writing, reading, and verbal)
  4. Experience coordinating outreach activities and promoting events via social media
  5. Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  6. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google applications

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Experience planning in-person, hybrid, and virtual events
  2. Experience with website design (e.g., WordPress), graphic design (e.g., Canva), email marketing (e.g., Mailchimp), video editing, and/or sound editing tools
  3. Experience or coursework related to international relations, political science, public policy, social science, Asian studies, Pacific Islands studies, and/or related fields
  4. Strong social skills and professional conduct
  5. Experience conducting research and writing memos or papers
  6. Familiarity with contemporary security, political, and/or economic issues in the Indo-Pacific region
  7. Proficiency in or familiarity with an Asian language
