U.S. INDOPACOM Student Internship

Overview

The Headquarters United States Indo-Pacific Command (HQUSINDOPACOM) Student Volunteer Fellowship Program (SVIP) allows students to explore career opportunities within a professional work environment while learning about the Department of Defense mission and objectives in the Indo-Pacific region. Students will grow in personal and professional skills through mentoring and developmental activities which encourage engagement with other professionals and students. Benefits include:

  • Personal and professional development opportunities within the Department of Defense
  • Networking across multiple government agencies (State, Justice, USAID, etc.)
  • Engagement with foreign governments including projects involving foreign policy strategies, defense, and security.
  • Department of Defense SECRET security clearance for qualified candidates

Eligibility

  • Undergraduate (junior or senior) or graduate student
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Able to obtain a security clearance
  • Available to commit to a 10-week program (40 hrs/week)
  • Note: A 16-week program (20 hrs/week) is also available for Hawaii residents only

  • A Letter of Interest that a) details your areas of interest focused on the Indo-Asia-Pacific region; b) indicates the positions in you are interested (see list of available positions); c) highlights your past experiences (academic, professional, and/or personal); and d) conveys how a USINDOPACOM internship will impact/be valuable to your long-term career goals.
  • Recommendations (if applicable)

UH Mānoa Funding Available

INDOPACOM internships are unpaid, but UH Mānoa will award 1-2 UHM students a stipend  of $4,000 to help support them during their  internship. To be considered for a stipend, submit the same application materials listed above to intern@hawaii.edu by January 20, 2023.
