ELP Hosts 13th Annual Enviromentors

The Environmental Law Program hosted the 13th Annual Enviromentors event on October 17th, 2017 at Cafe Julia.

This event was created to encourage mentoring between practitioners and law students from all different sectors of environmental law and often leads to valuable mentorships, internships, and jobs within Hawaiʻi’s environmental law community. Every attorney and student meets for seven minutes in a “Speed Meeting.” After the event, ELP matches the students up with their mentor based on their feedback for, at the very least, a one-on-one lunch if not a more extensive mentoring relationship.  The goal is to spark our law students’ thinking about career options and to match students with an Enviromentor who can be a guide and resource for the student’s future environmental law career.

Associate Justice Wilson of the Hawai`i Supreme Court also joined us and shared some of his wisdom and encouragement with the students.  Justice Wilson is a founding member of the Global Judicial Institute on the Environment and an adjunct faculty member of the Jindal Global University Law School in Sonipat, India. Before becoming a judge, he served as Director of the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Chair of the Board of Land and Natural Resources, Chair of the State Water Commission, and a Trustee of the Kahoolawe Island Reserve Commission.

Mahalo nui loa to all participating mentors, students, and ELP Faculty for another enjoyable Enviromentors event!
