The School of Communication and Information is fundamentally concerned with communication, including the creation and flow of information among people and communities, through media and technologies, and across time and cultures. Graduates will acquire knowledge, skills, and ethical perspectives to create, gather, analyze, and share information in a variety of settings, and understand information flow as a way to address individual and collective goals.

The School of Communication and Information consists of four programs and one institute: Communication (COM), Communicology (COMG), Journalism (JOUR), Library and Information Science (LIS), and the Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (PACE).
