The Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing (NAWSON) offers programs to prepare students for careers in nursing and dental hygiene primarily for the state of Hawai‘i and the Pacific Basin.
The Department of Nursing offers programs leading to the bachelor of science, master of science, DNP, and PhD nursing degrees. The department admits students to the undergraduate program both directly from high school and after completion of nursing pre-requisites and UH Manoa General Education Core requirements. An online pathway is available for associate degree nursing graduates to complete the baccalaureate. The school admits students to the graduate program with a bachelor’s degree or higher.
The Department of Dental Hygiene offers the bachelor of science degree. The program admits students both directly from high school and following completion of dental hygiene prerequisite courses and the majority of UH Manoa General Education Core requirements. The department also offers an advanced professional certificate for expanded function in dental hygiene in pediatrics to expand the knowledge and skills of licensed dental hygienists.
The Department of Dental Hygiene also offers an Advanced Professional Certificate for Expanded Function Dental Hygiene in Pediatrics (EFDH). This program provides Registered Dental Hygienists (RDH) and graduates from the UH BS Dental Hygiene Program the opportunity to expand their knowledge, improve oral health outcomes for children, and develop clinical skills in pediatrics, giving them a competitive advantage for employment.
The leader in nursing and dental hygiene education and research in Hawai‘i with outreach to Asia and the Pacific Basin.
