Aloha! As Acting Chief Global Officer for the Office of Global Engagement at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, I am honored to welcome you to our global ʻohana.
At UH Mānoa, global engagement is not an add-on to our work—it is at the heart of who we are. As a Native Hawaiian place of learning in the middle of the Pacific, we are uniquely positioned to connect Indigenous knowledge, cutting-edge research, and communities across the world. Our location and history allow us to serve as a bridge between the Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the globe, and we embrace that responsibility with intention and care.
Through the Office of Global Engagement, we strive to promote UH Mānoa as a premier leader in global education, world-class research, and transnational collaboration. We work closely with partners across campus and around the world to create opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and scholars to learn, teach, research, and innovate across borders. Whether through study away and exchange programs, joint research initiatives, visiting scholars, or institutional partnerships, our goal is to foster transformative experiences that are grounded in place, informed by data, and guided by shared values.
We are deeply committed to advancing global sustainability, strengthening Asia-Pacific and Indigenous partnerships, and cultivating a campus culture that is welcoming, inclusive, and globally aware. In doing so, we honor the host culture of Hawaiʻi while engaging collaboratively with diverse communities worldwide.
Equally important is our commitment to service. OGE strives to provide high-quality, responsive, and thoughtful support to our students, faculty, staff, academic units, and families. We recognize that navigating international education and engagement can be complex, and we are committed to being a trusted resource – providing clear guidance, timely assistance, and collaborative solutions that help our campus community succeed.
I invite you to explore the many ways you can connect with our office—whether you are a prospective or current student, faculty or staff member, alumnus, or international partner. Together, we can build meaningful relationships, expand opportunities, and co-create a more just, sustainable, and interconnected world.
Me ke aloha,
Xiaoxin (Ivy) Mu, PhD
