
ELP Alumnae and environmental law certificate recipient Trisha Kehaulani Watson-Sproat, ’03 owns and operates Honua Consulting, which provides consulting services that advocate for the inclusion of cultural practices and practitioners in the management of community and environmental resources in Hawai‘i. Trisha has been active with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature for years, and currently serves on the Host Committee for the upcoming World Conservation Congress that will be held in Honolulu from September 1-10, 2016.
Trisha was named the American Savings Bank Young Community Leader of the Year in 2014. This recognition follows a series of other accolades already on her resume including volunteer of the year for the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, an outstanding young person award from the Hawaii Junior Chamber of Commerce, as well as an award from the law firm of Rush, Moore, Craven, Morry, and Beh. Watson-Sproat attributes her success to her family and the education values they instilled in her. She earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and American studies from UH Manoa and a master’s degree in American studies from Washington State University. In 2003, Watson-Sproat received her JD and environmental law certificate from the William S. Richardson School of Law.
In an interview with Pacific Business News, for an article highlighting her most recent award and her many achievements, Trisha offered the following advice: “Trust people to do their jobs. Really believe in the power of collaborative work.”
