Associate Professor Kapua Sproat named a 2015 “Emerging Scholar” by the IUCN

kapua-sproat-800Associate Professor for the Environmental Law Program and Ka Huli Ao Center for Excellence in Native Hawaiian Law, Kapua Sproat, was named a 2015 Environmental Law Education Award “Emerging Scholar” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s (“IUCN’s”) Academy of Environmental Law.  The IUCN, founded in 1948, is the oldest and largest global environmental network.  It facilitates research and field projects with various organizations and local communities to resolve contemporary environmental challenges.  The Academy of Environmental Law consists of over 180 universities from 57 countries, enabling nationwide networking for over 800 environmental law professors and students.  This year’s awards were held at the Academy’s 13th Annual Colloquium at Atma Jaya Catholic University in Jakarta, Indonesia.  Kapua’s Emerging Scholar award recognizes her research, writing, and teaching in environmental and Native Hawaiian law, including her work leading Richardson’s Environmental Law Clinic, which balances classroom learning with hands-on interaction with real clients.
