19th Annual Enviromentors

Students, mentors, and ELP faculty gathered in the WSRSL Clinical Building for ELP’s 19th Annual Enviromentors event.

On October 26, 2023, the William S. Richardson School of Law Environmental Law Program (ELP) hosted its nineteenth annual Enviromentors event in the Clinical Building.

The Enviromentors event aims to connect current students with practitioners in the environmental field (“enviromentors”) – many of whom are graduates of the William S. Richardson School of Law and recipients of the Environmental Law Certificate.

During the event, students rotate through the enviromentor stations to meet one-on-one with each environmentor. Though each conversation is brief (approximately 5 minutes), the students have just enough time to introduce themselves and learn about the wide variety of opportunities within the realm of environmental law. This year, ELP hosted an impressive eighteen enviromentors and sixteen students.

Following the event, students are paired up with an enviromentor and given the opportunity to meet over lunch for a more in-depth one-on-one conversation.

Students spend time getting to know each enviromentor before rotating to the next enviromentor.

First-time enviromentor and Policy Research Specialist for DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife Evan Miyaki, Jr. reflected, “The event is a great way for students to connect with folks in the environmental realm. I found the event very informative and helpful while I was a student. I was able to make several connections and even gain a couple of externships out of the event. Now that I am a ‘mentor,’ I try to think of what it was like for me in my 1L year. Out of all the things I said, I hope one piece of advice stuck!”

“It was a fun event and nice to connect with students interested in pursuing a career in environmental law, and other Richardson alumni working in the field,” commented recent alumna Kanani Smull, who now works as a Post-JD Law Fellow for DLNR Office of Conservation and Coastal Lands.

ELP would like to thank all of the students and enviromentors who attended Enviromentors.
