ELP Participates in 16th IUCN Academy of Environmental Law Colloquium

The Environmental Law Program participated in the 16th IUCN Academy of Environmental Law Colloquium, held from July 4-6, 2018, which brought together over 300 participants from six continents to discuss current international, comparative, national, and local environmental law issues.

The theme of the Colloquium was β€œThe Transformation of Environmental Law and Governance:  Risk, Resilience and Innovation.” Hosted at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, the three-day event featured over sixty parallel sessions, five plenary sessions, and twenty poster presentations.  In addition, in the days preceding the Colloquium, the Academy Board of Governors held a two-day meeting, and the Academy research committee and teaching committees held popular day-long workshops.

ELP is an institutional member of IUCN AEL, which aims to promote environmental legal education through developing environmental law programs, creating global research programs, and convening major international conferences.

Professor David Forman ’93 represented ELP at the Colloquium. Associate Dean Denise Antolini participated in the colloquium as both a member of ELP and as Deputy Chair of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law (WCEL). Miranda Steed ’19 participated as an ELP Research Associate and as Assistant Executive Officer for WCEL.

 Dean Antolini chaired a panel, Climate Change: Process, Planning and the Rule of Law and gave remarks during the Closing Plenary. She also participated in the two-day Governing Board meeting on 1-2 July on behalf of WCEL.

The Universiti Teknologi MARA in Shah Alam, Malaysia will host the 17th IUCN Academy of Environmental Law Colloquium from August 5-9, 2019.
