IELMT Competes in 22nd Annual Competition

Natalie Moreland ’18, Karen Smith ’18, and Kevin Morris ’19 represented the 2017-18 International Environmental Moot Court Team, coached by Professor Richard Wallsgrove ’08. They competed at the 22nd annual International Environmental Moot Court Competition from March 22-25, 2018 at Stetson School of Law in Florida.

After a tough opening round loss for Natalie and Karen against a top school from India, Natalie and Kevin went on to win the next round against a team from the Ukraine that also competed in Jessup. In the third preliminary match against a Brazilian team that made it to the semi finals, Natalie and Kevin put up an excellent fight but ultimately lost by a narrow margin. In the final match, Karen and Natalie finished strong and secured one more win against a great team from Kenya but unfortunately fell just short of making it to the final knock out stage. Natalie won a top oralist award for her outstanding performance in the preliminary rounds. Everyone on the team would like to send a big mahalo to all of the volunteer judges who helped prepare the team for this year’s competition. They look forward to a stronger finish next year and hope to bring home a trophy for the law school!
