For our January 6th meeting, Rachel taught us about Mediterranean cuisine. We made our own naan bread with only 2 ingredients, yogurt and flour. We also made tzatziki sauce and hummus for our bread! It was quite simple considering the fact each dish had very few ingredients used. Everything was so delicious, and we all had a fun time making it together.

For our December 2nd, 2018, meeting, Xia taught us about Italian cuisine. We made homemade dough and thinned it out to make our own pasta and pizza. They were both so delicious! Although making each food item was a little difficult, the end result made them totally worth the effort. After the meeting, we all sat down and had a Christmas party. We did a white elephant gift exchange, and after everything, we all got to swim and hang out in the pool at the Ota’s house.

Congratulations to Extension Agent Laura Kawamura on her retirement! Laura left her position working with 4-H youth development at the end of 2018 after being with the University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension for many years. Her dedication to improving the lives of Kauai’s youth and families was evident through the many programs she developed and brought to the island in healthy living education including the Community Behavioral Health Early-Warning System, Mindfulness Training, Nutrition Education for Wellness, Ka’ Aha (Connecting Generations Through Meal Preparation), Kaua‘i’s Great Weigh Out, the T.E.A.M. 2018 4-H National Congress

On Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2018, twenty-three 4-H youth delegates, and their four chaperones travelled to National 4-H Congress in Atlanta. The youth, who represented East Hawaii, West Hawaii, and Maui County, enjoyed motivational speeches, educational workshops, community service projects, and a variety of opportunities to network, grow, and learn.
