Message from our new director, Dr. Anna Stirr

Dear all,
Welcome to the new semester. I am pleased to be able to introduce myself as the new director of the Center for South Asian Studies.
I am Associate Professor in the Department of Asian Studies, in the College of Arts, Languages, and Letters, and just finished a stint as Acting Chair of Asian Studies. My academic background is in ethnomusicology, and my research is about performance, poetry, intimacy and politics in Nepal and the Nepali diaspora. My research and creative work are intertwined in writing, performance, and filmmaking. More about my own work is available on my website.
As CSAS Director, I look forward to working with our affiliate faculty, students, and community in promoting the study of South Asia on campus. With gratitude to outgoing Director Sai Bhatawadekar and the continued assistance of Coordinator Irmak Yazici and the members of the Executive Committee, I am excited to continue the Center’s activities and pursue new opportunities.
As we all continue to take precautions against COVID-19, we expect that most Center events will remain virtual this year. Please keep an eye on this newsletter and our social media accounts for announcements of events, opportunities and more.
With all best wishes,
Anna Stirr
