We're excited to announce that UNIV 110 will be available in Fall 2025. Please stay tuned for updates!
WHAT IS UNIV 110?
UNIV 110 is a one-credit Writing Intensive (WI) seminar class offered as a stand-alone course that freshmen can sign up for during standard registration. This course includes:
- Weekly Meetings: Students meet once a week for 50 minutes with a set group of no more than 20 students. This college course also ends earlier than most UHM college courses!
- Upperclassman Peer Mentor: An upperclassman peer mentor facilitates the seminar. The mentor can provide insight on transitioning to college and relay helpful information regarding UHM's services and layout.
- Informative Lesson Plans: Each week, the peer mentor will review information pertinent to successful acclimation to college. Topics such as accessing campus resources, study tips, and money management are practical lectures from which UNIV 110 students will learn.
- Creating Connections: In addition to having an upperclassman peer mentor, in this course, you will have the opportunity to connect with other faculty and create long-lasting friendships in a supportive and connective environment
WHY UNIV 110?
The transition to college is not an easy one, which is why UNIV 110 works to alleviate some of the stress that is placed on first-year students. Finding your way around a new campus, making friends, and adjusting to the academic rigor of courses can overwhelm any student. It is the ideal way for students to get the hang of all aspects of college in their first semester so that they can continue succeeding in the following semesters.
UNIV 110 is designed to assist first-year students in their transition to college by helping them build personal connections with other students in their same transitional phase.
