Ichikawa Takishō

Ichikawa TakiIchikawa Takishō graduated from the highly selective National Theatre Kabuki Training Program in 2015.  Entry into this three-year course is by audition: selection and admission into the program in itself is an honor and a sign of promise and talent.  After graduating, he entered the acting lineage of Ichikawa Monnosuke VIII, and has been appearing in supporting roles in traditional plays, such as Shin Hakkenden at Chunichi Theater in Nagoya (2015), Hitori Tabi Gojūsan Tsugi in Tokyo (2016), and Shochikubai Yushima no Kakegaku in Tokyo (2019); as well as the blockbuster Super Kabuki II production of One Piece in Tokyo and Osaka (2017 and 2018). He appears regularly at Meiji-za, Kabuki-za, and the National Theatre in Tokyo.

In 2019, Takishō Ichikawa was Kabuki Workshop Associate Guest Artist at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. In the Fall 2023 semester, he’ll co-lead training sessions in stylized stage combat choreography and Kabuki choreography.
