The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences (TPSS) strive to advance the education, research, and community engagement through comprehensive curriculum, innovative research, and meaningful outreach and extension programs. Our mission is to improve food self-sufficiency and sustainability, while simultaneously bolstering the agriculture economy in Hawaiʻi, amidst a rapidly changing climate.

Our cutting-edge research programs discover innovative solutions that help solve local to global challenges. They strengthen tropical and Pacific agricultural production systems, ensure food security, and protect the environment.

Our dedicated agents extend our research findings to serve community needs. Our outreach initiatives engage, educate, and support local local agricultural residents, communities organizations, and industry leaders.

Our programs will provide you with opportunities to engage in hands-on opportunities at the laboratory bench, in controlled environments, or in the field at experiment stations located on five islands while surrounded by a diverse and interactive group of students from around the world.
