Cross-Cultural Understanding

Developing cross-cultural understanding refers to the ability of people to recognize, interpret and correctly react to people, incidences or situations that are open to misunderstanding due to cultural differences. Becoming more culturally aware is a continual process and it can help to have curiosity, an open mind, a willingness to ask questions, a desire to learn about the differences that exist between cultures, and an openness to becoming conscious of one’s own culturally shaped values, beliefs, perceptions, and biases.

Nhà Nha (Let’s Go Home)

The Vietnamese phrase “nhà nha” comes at the end of a conversation, a long day, a migration or a journey. It is spoken between parents and children, lovers, relatives, neighbors, and friends. It is both a question and a statement, a wish and a hope. It shines a light on the places we call home and asks us to go there, together. “Nhà Nha” is an online community album dedicated to bringing together Vietnam, its diaspora, and it’s community. We’re looking for photo and story contributions that explore “home” as a space of origins, belonging, connection, placemaking, homesickness, and growth. What does home mean, what has it meant, and what might it be?
