Peacebuilding Initiatives are collaborative ways of developing healthy positive relationships via dialogue, cross-cultural understanding, and exploring ways to shift our own perspective to build compassion and empathy within our communities.

Dialogue

Learn more about the use of dialogue as an effective method of communication, and practice those skills with others. The programs and activities will accentuate and strengthen your understanding of conflict management and their implications for involvement with others to develop personally and professional by 1) promoting an understanding of conflict management skills, 2) providing an opportunity for folks to learn and practice skills that will help them better engage with other members of the Community; and 3) developing critical thinking skills.

Cross-Cultural Understanding

Developing cross-cultural understanding refers to the ability of people to recognize, interpret and correctly react to people, incidences or situations that are open to misunderstanding due to cultural differences. Becoming more culturally aware is a continual process and it can help to have curiosity, an open mind, a willingness to ask questions, a desire to learn about the differences that exist between cultures, and an openness to becoming conscious of one’s own culturally shaped values, beliefs, perceptions, and biases.
