International environmental law conference coming to UH law school

A major international gathering of legal scholars and jurists from 10 countries will look at "The Role of International Courts in Protecting Environmental Commons" at the William S. Richardson School of Law on Friday, November 9. Participating countries include Brazil, India, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Norway and the U.S.

The conference, free and open to the public, is set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m in Classroom 2 at the law school on the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa campus. 

Professor Christina Voigt from the University of Oslo in Norway, the Distinguished International Visiting Scholar in the Environmental Law Program at the UH law school, will give the keynote address at 11 a.m.

Voigt is an authority on international environmental law, working in particular on issues of climate change, environmental multilateralism and sustainability. The professor in the Department of Public and International Law in Oslo is also coordinator at the Oslo university’s Center of Excellence - PluriCourts. 

Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is available at the parking structure for $5 before 4 p.m. and $6 after.

The UH law school is located at 2515 Dole Street.
