Nicole Scherzinger to reprise role in Hawaiian-language version of Disney's Moana

Recording artist Nicole Scherzinger to reprise role in Hawaiian language version of Disney's Moana.
Multi-platinum recording artist and actress Nicole Scherzinger will join the all-Hawaiʻi cast in a reprisal of her role as Sina in the Hawaiian-language version of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Moana.
Scherzinger joins fellow Native Hawaiian Auliʻi Cravalho as members of the original cast who are returning to their roles in the hit feature. This is the first time a Disney picture has been re-recorded in Hawaiian.
“I’m so excited to reprise my role as Sina for the Hawaiian-language version of Moana,” said Scherzinger, who is part Native Hawaiian and was born in Hawaiʻi. “I can’t wait for everyone to experience this beloved movie in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, giving us all the opportunity to watch something that we already know and love in a language that is so special to us.”
The University of Hawaiʻi’s Academy for Creative Media System is funding and coordinating this collaborative project - with the goal of sharing the film for educational purposes in Hawai‘i and beyond. The collaborative production joins faculty and staff from the University of Hawaiʻi - West Oʻahu, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, and Honolulu Community College.

For centuries, the greatest sailors in the world masterfully navigated the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, 3,000 years ago, their voyages stopped for a millennium – and no one knows exactly why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who is inspired to leave the safety and security of her island on a daring journey to save her people. Together, they voyage across the open ocean on an action-packed adventure, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills her quest and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity. Moana is directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess & the Frog”), produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”), and features music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa‘i.
