The Kipapa i ke Ala Lecture Series Brings Renowned Businessman James Champy to Hawaii

HONOLULU -- On Thursday, October 21, 2004 the University of Hawaii at Manoa College of Business and the William S. Richardson School of Law will present the twelfth Kipapa i ke Ala lecture, featuring renowned businessman and author James Champy. Champy, Chairman of Consulting for Perot Systems, is a leading authority on management issues surrounding business reengineering, structural change, and corporate renewal.

"Jim Champy is one of the world's most insightful and yet practical experts on the important subject of change and its impact on people and organizations. Champy is also unusually clear and down-to-earth - and he is always worth hearing," said Dean of the William S. Richardson School of Law, Dr. Aviam Soifer.

Champy's talk, "Technology, Work, and the Transformation of Companies," will address the steps companies must take to leverage the power of technology, among other issues dealing with corporate renewal.

Biographical Sketch of James A. Champy

James A. Champy is chairman of consulting at Perot Systems and head of strategy. Champy is a leading authority on the management issues surrounding business reengineering, structural change, and corporate renewal. He is co-author of Reengineering the Corporation, which sold more than two million copies, was on the New York Times best-seller list for more than a year, and has been translated into 17 languages. He has continued to write extensively, and his latest book is X-Engineering the Corporation: Reinventing Your Business in the Digital Age. Prior to joining Perot Systems, Champy was Chairman and CEO of CSC Index, the management consulting arm of Computer Sciences Corporation. Champy received both his bachelor¡¦s and master¡¦s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his law degree from Boston College Law School. He is a member of the executive committee of the MIT Corporation, and chaired the recent search for a new university president.

This is the twelfth talk of the Kipapa i ke Ala Lecture Series, which began in 2001. The Kipapa i ke Ala forum which translates, "paving the way," brings the best and brightest from the world of international business to share their knowledge with students, faculty, alumni and members of the greater Hawai„Si community.
