In collaboration with the 20th Annual Pacific Rim Conference on Disabilities, the National Center for the Study of Postsecondary Educational Supports at the University of Hawaiʻi and the National Center on Secondary Education and Transition at the University of Minnesota proudly present the "Issues of Transition and Postsecondary Participation for Individuals with Hidden Disabilities Conference," which will immediately follow the Pacific Rim Conference at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, March 31-April 1, 2004.

Bridging the gap between research and reality, this conference will explore issues related to the transition and postsecondary participation of youth with "hidden" disabilities—learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), psychiatric disabilities, emotional disabilities, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and other disabilities that cannot be "seen." These individuals are often overlooked and misunderstood, despite protections offered under federal disability law and growing recognition that hidden disabilities profoundly affect many aspects of a person‘s learning and everyday life.

Attendees of this unique event will have the opportunity to hear from nationally recognized presenters such as Veronica and Robert Crawford, Liz Getzel, Shannon McManus, Madeline Harcourt, Christopher Lee, Joe Marrone, Alpheus Mathis, Al Souma, and Michael Sharpe. To further bridge the gap between research and reality, attendees will hear from presenters that live with hidden disabilities and are successful in their daily lives and careers.

Secondary school educators, secondary and postsecondary career guidance counselors, transition specialists, postsecondary education faculty and support personnel, rehabilitation counselors, individuals with disabilities, researchers, and others interested in educational and employment opportunities for individuals with hidden disabilities are invited and encouraged to attend this event.
