Reschi Karla Ramo, as the top scoring student from the State of Hawai'i, has been named a 2015 Coca-Cola New Century Scholar. She is this year's single recipient from the State of Hawai'i. The program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Foundation and the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, with additional support provided by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa. Selection was based on the score earned in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition, for which more than 1,700 applications were received this year. Nominations were evaluated on academic achievement, leadership, service and a response to a significant endeavor.

As a Coca-Cola New Century Scholar, Karla will be presented with a $2,000 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Foundation and Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and be recognized at the Annual Phi Theta Kappa Presidents Breakfast held during the American Association of Community College’s Annual Convention on April 20, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas.

Karla is also a graduate of Waipahu H.S. and among the first of the Waipahu H.S. students to participate in the Early College Program partnership that Leeward has had with Waipahu H.S. since Fall 2012.
