UH West O‘ahu hosts Chamber Music Hawaii concerts this spring

The University of Hawai‘i – West O‘ahu will be filled with the sounds of beautiful music this year as host to a Chamber Music Hawaii concert series featuring the Spring Wind Quintet, Honolulu Brass Quintet and Galliard String Quartet. These Chamber Music Hawaii ensembles will perform a three-part concert series in West O‘ahu at the University’s Kapolei campus. All ensemble members are full-time musicians with the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra (formerly the Honolulu Symphony).

Open to all, the concerts are free for students and will take place in UH West O‘ahu’s Library that provides a marvelous acoustic setting for the evening performances. Audiences will also enjoy a free Chamber Music 102 presentation featuring a fun introduction to chamber music at the UHWO campus by Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Jon Magnussen. Join Chamber Music Hawaii’s Galliard String Quartet and UH West Oʻahu Assistant Professor of Music and composer Dr. Jon Magnussen for a fun and informative introduction to the chamber music experience including live and recorded musical examples. All are welcome to attend this free event. No tickets required.

Spring Wind Quintet

The Spring Wind Quintet will perform Bach’s Prelude & Fugue in E minor, Baldwin’s “Dreams of the White Tiger,” Maslanka’s Wind Quintet No. 4, Bach’s Prelude & Fugue in G minor and Taffanel’s “Wind Quintet.”

Honolulu Brass Quintet with Harpist Constance Uejio

The Honolulu Brass Quintet featuring Harpist Constance Uejio will perform Poulenc’s “Sonata,” Morley Calvert’s “Suite from the Monteregian Hills,” Sampson’s “Morning Music” and Rayner Brown’s “Concertino for Harp and Brass Quintet.”

Galliard String Quartet

The Galliard String Quartet will perform Mozart’s Quartet in F, Brahms’ Quartet in C minor and a newly commissioned work by UH West Oʻahu Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Jon Magnussen, supported by the Honolulu Mayor’s Office on Culture and the Arts.
