Entomologist Steven Lee Montgomery will present “Using Science for Healthy Choices: Getting the Chemistry Right” on Thursday, February 12 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., at Windward Community College, Hale ‘Imiloa 111, as part of the Community Forum in Chemistry series.
Our natural resources exist in a delicate balance and it is important that we all do our part in conserving the native ecosystem. This talk is about fostering a healthy local environment by keeping pesticides out of the food chain, promoting bio-controls of weeds and insect pests, saving farm land and the bees.
Dr. Montgomery completed his MS and PhD entomology degrees from the College of Tropical Agriculture, University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. Since then, Dr. Montgomery has worked in Hawai'i environmental biology, natural history video, bio-politics and honeybee services. He has volunteered with the Hawai'i Natural Area and Land Use Commissions, Sierra Club and Ahahui Malama I Ka Lokahi /Hawaiians for the Conservation of Native Ecosystems. He has served as a biological consultant on Hawai'i and the Pacific to landowners and government agencies. He has numerous publications and received several awards in environmental community service.
The Community Forum in Chemistry is co-sponsored by Windward Community College and the American Chemical Society-Hawaii Section. For more information, call Letty Colmenares, PhD, Professor of Chemistry at 236-9120.
