In itʻs first show of the new year, Gallery ‘Iolani presents INTO VIEW, an exhibition of two emerging curators—Erika Enomoto and Shulang Zou—curating emerging artists in an exhibition of “narcissists” featuring the work of 12 visual artists in our community.
“The artists belong to the Millennial Generation, born between the early-80s to mid-90s. This generation is ubiquitously defined as “deluded,” “narcissistic,” and “entitled.” INTO VIEW endeavors to deepen the understanding of who Millennial artists are, what their concerns may be, and whether or not they embrace, reject, or otherwise feel ambivalently toward being labeled as “narcissists.” The exhibition aims to look at the ways in which Millennial artists working on Oʻahu negotiate the contemporary art world on their own terms.” —Curator’s statement
Artists: Jake Boggs, Andrea Charuk, Jan Dickey, Jordan Harrison, Neilson Ishida, Alina Kawai, Laura Konecne, Kalani Largusa, Eric Ricky Allen Peters, Landon Tom, Lauren Trangmar and Andrew Yamauchi.
