Law School offers free legal help over four days to small businesses

If you’re starting a small business – or in the midst of running one – and need some legal help, the William S. Richardson School of Law has a gift for you.
During the last half of October and first half of November, law students from the School’s Entrepreneurship and Small Business Clinic are offering free legal help during 45-minute sessions overseen by an attorney specializing in business law.
Clinic students are trained to discuss basic questions regarding:

Choice of entity.

Formation governance of limited liability companies and corporations.

Protection of names and trademarks.

Other business law issues that arise regarding these subjects.
The clinic will have two teams of students meeting with clients, and with members of the public who may have questions regarding business law and who would welcome consultation.
Clinic students will meet with clients under the supervision of clinic instructor Greg Kim, a licensed attorney with a specialty in business law.
Law School Dean Avi Soifer said, “This is yet another example of the kind of direct outreach to the community that we are delighted to do, with the help of exceptional attorneys such as Greg Kim, who directly supervises, teaches and mentors our outstanding students.”

The free legal sessions are a partnership between the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, the Hawai‘i High Technology Development Corporation and the Hawai‘i Small Business Development Center.
The free sessions are scheduled for 1-4 p.m. on Friday, October 18; from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, October 23; from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, November 13; and from 1-4 p.m. on Friday, November 15. They will be held at the Mānoa Innovation Center (MIC) at 2800 Woodlawn Drive, Suite 100.
