The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo College of Pharmacy presents its Fourth Annual Health Fair on Saturday, October 6, 10-3 p.m. at the UH Hilo Campus Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Students and faculty will conduct blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes screenings, a "brown bag” medication check, healthy living demonstrations, informational booths, and a healthy living art competition for local school children.
Other community organizations conducting concurrent activities include the Hawaiʻi Bone Marrow Donor Registry, NED Drug Take Back Program, Hawaiʻi Cataract and Laser Institution, Hawaiʻi Island HIV/AIDS Foundation, Senior Medicare Patrol, and Akaka Falls Lions Club.
“Our health fair is now a tradition during national American Pharmacists Month, which is celebrated annually during October,” said Carolyn Ma, chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice who created the inaugural health fair in 2009. “It serves as another reminder to our students about the importance of their chosen profession for the community. Those who come to campus will witness first-hand the value these student pharmacists add throughout the state of Hawaiʻi.”
