UH Saves Day expands financial education event over two days

Over the course of two days, UH Mānoa will join thousands of Americans in a national campaign called America Saves Week by hosting its third annual UH Saves Day on Wednesday, February 22 and Thursday, February 23, to impart financial literacy to students, faculty and staff. There will be educational workshops, exhibits, public lecture and a game show competition testing four student teams on financial concepts.

 

A public lecture presented by Arkadi Kuhlmann, the founder and CEO of ING DIRECT USA, will be held on Wednesday, February 22, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Shidler College of Business room A101. The lecture, entitled “When All Else Fails Rock Then Roll,” is free and open to the public but seating is limited. On-campus parking is $6. To reserve a seat, email: finlit@hawaii.edu.

 

The expo will run on Thursday, February 23, from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Campus Center. Educational workshops will take place in Campus Center rooms 203 and 308 on topics such as Smart Money Management, The Wise Use of Credit, Financing Graduate Education and Investment Planning. Attendees are also eligible to participate in a scavenger hunt from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Campus Center by attending one workshop and visiting at least three exhibitors.

 

The LifeSmarts Challenge will also be held on Thursday, February 23, in the Hale Aloha Cafeteria from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The winning team will win two $250 scholarships. 

 

Exhibitors will include American Savings Bank, Bank of Hawai‘i, UH Federal Credit Union, First Hawaiian Bank, Hawaiian Tel Federal Credit Union, ING Direct Bank, various State of Hawai‘i Departments, UHM Career Services, AARP Hawai‘i, Better Business Bureau Hawai‘i, Hawai‘i Homeownership Center, Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Hawai‘i, FDIC, Internal Revenue Service, Financial Aid Services, UHM Student Parents at Mānoa and America Saves.
