The University of Hawai‘i – West O‘ahu was awarded a $40,000 grant to provide college access programs to Hawai‘i high school students by the College Access Challenge Grant Program (CACGP) and Hawai‘i P-20 Partnerships for Education. UH West O‘ahu will use the funds to provide college preparatory activities and enhance outreach to eligible high school students throughout the state.
“We are proud to offer even more college access programs to Hawai‘i’s students with this generous grant,” said Gene I. Awakuni, UH West O‘ahu chancellor. “Together with the opening of our new Kapolei campus in August, these programs will help us to better serve our local community and achieve the goal of increasing college-going rates for our future generations.”
UH West O‘ahu will host a variety of college preparatory programs including:
- UH College Day on Feb. 18 at Pearl Country Club - A college fair showcasing all O‘ahu University of Hawai‘i campuses and special programs, community scholarships, and financial aid. Parents, students and the general community will be able to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and FAFSA Forecaster with one-on-one assistance from trained experts and receive information from all O‘ahu University of Hawai‘i campuses in one place.
- UH West O‘ahu Express/On-site Admissions - UH West O‘ahu admission officers will visit select public high schools where high school seniors will submit their admission application and supporting documents and be notified of an admission decision by the university over a period of three days.
- Get Connected Orientation Luncheon - All high school seniors who have been accepted to UH West O‘ahu and their parents will be invited to a luncheon for an orientation on the process of enrolling at the university. They will also enjoy a tour of the brand new UH West O‘ahu campus in Kapolei and get to know UH West O‘ahu advisors, financial aid officers, and student leaders.
