Campus Care Day to Focus on "Courtyard Cafe" Sustainability Project

Sakamaki Halls at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa campus.
WHO: A joint project between the UH Office of Sustainability and the UH Mānoa Building and Grounds Management Office.

BACKGROUND:
At a strategic planning meeting entitled "Defining Our Destiny" that took place in February 2002, more than 1,000 faculty, staff, students and community participants voiced that they wanted open air gathering places that would attract the campus community to a setting where lively conversation, good food and quiet reflection are encouraged.
A plan to design a more beautiful campus that reflects Hawaiʻi‘s unique cultural and ecological traditions is in place. The first phase will improve the landscaping and appearance of the surrounding buildings. The event culminates the university‘s weeklong celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King‘s dedication to caring for one‘s own community.
